Candidate Debates

Election Day is Tuesday, November 6th.   Be an informed voter by attending candidate debates.

The League of Women Voters of Lackawanna County (LWVLC) and cosponsor, the Political Science Department, The University of Scranton, plan to hold candidate debates.

A debate between candidates for State Representative to the Pennsylvania 112th district, will be held Tuesday, Oct. 23rd, 7:00 p.m., at the Moskovitz Theater, 4th floor of the DeNaples Center, The University of Scranton, Mulberry Street.

A debate between candidates for candidates for State Senator to the Pennsylvania 22nd district will be held Wednesday, Oct. 24th, 7:00 p.m., at the Pearn Auditorium, 2nd Floor of Brennan Hall, The University of Scranton, Madison Avenue.

Both events are open to the public.

Jermyn Sesquicentennial (150th Birthday) Planning Meeting

Jermyn will celebrate its 150th birthday in 2020!  It’s called a “sesquicentennial”.  There will be a planning meeting on Sunday evening, October 14th at 7:00 pm at the Jermyn Borough Building.  All are encouraged to attend, as we need many helpers!

Steamtown Marathon 10/7/18

Sunday morning the Steamtown Marathon will again come through town. The route will be down Washington Avenue from Mayfield making a left onto Bridge Street and then a right onto the Heritage Trail. During the main body of the race Washington Avenue will be closed down as well as the cross streets. Please make arrangements if you have to be somewhere so you’re able to get there on time. Again thank you for your cooperation.  First contestants usually arrive around 9am.

The Jermyn Borough Council held a council meeting on September 20, 2018 at 7:00pm in Council Chambers of the Jermyn Borough Building, 440 Jefferson Ave, Jermyn PA.
On roll call, the following members were present: Frank Kulick, Kristen Dougherty, Kevin Napoli, Cynthia Stephens, Carl Tomaine. Joanne Wilson joined at 7:04 pm. Also present were Mayor Fuga, Attorney Aquilino, Ray Rood, and Bob Chase. KBA was absent.
A motion was made by K. Napoli to accept the minutes of 8/16/18 with the correction that K. Dougherty was absent for the meeting. Seconded by K. Dougherty. All in favor, motion carried.

Announcement from Council President Frank Kulick:

I am pleased to announce that at last nights special council meeting council voted unanimously to re- establish the position of Borough Manager and named Dan Markey to the position. In today’s world the position of Borough Manager to oversee the day to day business of the borough is essential to keep up with regulations, provide the best service to our residents, and keep up to date on grant and other opportunities to benefit the borough.
We feel Dans commitment and dedication exhibited in his time as a council member will go a long way in being a successful borough manager.
Dan resigned his council seat effective last night and will begin his role as Borough Manager on September 17.

Kristen Doughterty was unanimously voted to fill the position of Vice President.

Jermyn borough is looking for a part time( 30 hours per week) secretary/ treasurer. Experience with Sage( Peachtree) bookkeeping program and or some government type office experience preferred but otherwise qualified candidates will be considered.
