Events Committee

MISSION STATEMENT:

The mission of the Jermyn Events Committee is to revitalize the town, to provide activities for young and old alike and to offer opportunities for friendship and camaraderie.

The Jermyn Events Committee meets on the first Sunday of each month at 6:00 p.m. (or at the call of the chair) in the Council Chambers, Jermyn Community Center, 440 Jefferson Avenue, Jermyn, Pennsylvania.   All residents are welcome to attend and join the activities.

The Jermyn Events Committee is a non-profit organization established August, 2002.  The committee held its first official activity on January 18, 2003; it being the annual dinner/dance.  The first election of officers was held on February 2, 2003.  Officers elected were: President – Mr. Gerard Geoffroy, 1st Vice President – Mr. Fred Zelinski, 2nd Vice President – James Longworth, Treasurer – Katie Hosie, Secretary – Mrs. Lillian Shust, Assistant Secretary – Miss Megan Roberts, Publicity – Mrs. Mary Perrault, Community Photographer – Mrs. Kim McCall.  Action was taken to choose an official  logo and  color.  The committee adopted the former Jermyn High School colors and mascot for their official logo & color,  the “Blue Jay” and blue & white.  The Committee’s motto is “Jermyn Proud”.

ANNUAL  ACTIVITIES:

January/February     The Annual Community Awards Dinner.

May                Flower pots for the beautification of Main Street –
The committee purchases, prepares, plants, and distributes summer flower pots.

July                 Community Concert in the Park.

September   End of Summer Picnic

November   Co-sponsor the Veterans Day Ceremony.

December   Annual Christmas Concert Sponsorship, provide refreshments, and Santa’s Visit to Jermyn.

Annual Community Awards Dinner Event

DATE: February 20, 2016

Time: 5:00 p.m. Social Hour  – dinner 6:00 p.m. – immediately following Awards and Dancing until 10:00 p.m.

Place: St. Michael’s Hall, Delaware Street, Jermyn, Pennsylvania

Social Hour – Appetizers    All evening: Beverages of Soda – Beer – Wine

Dinner – Family Style consists of Chicken and Roast Beef, potato, vegetable, bread & butter, coffee and tea.

Cost: $30.00 per person    Reserved tables available.  Call JoAnne 570-876-1477 for tickets and reserved tables.

ANNUAL FUNDRAISER:  This fundraiser helps support  the beautiful summer flowers planted throughout Jermyn in the flower pots and bridge baskets; and also helps with the costs incurred for the annual Community Concert in the Park and the annual Christmas Concert.   The Events Committee also supports the Veterans Day Ceremony and other community endeavors. Raffle fundraiser chances, with drawing at the Annual Community Awards Dinner, can be acquired at Avery’s Flowers Shop, Longworth’s Family Restaurant, and  from any Events Committee member.  The prizes are as follows:

      1st Prize – $300.00 Cash                                                                                                              2nd Prize – $100.00 – Gas Card donated by Bednash Petroleum                                           3rd Prize – $100.00 Gas Card donated by Art Wilson      4th Prize – $50.00 Cash               5th Prize – $50.00 Cash  and    6th Prize – $50.00 Cash both donated by Bottler’s Tavern
