As we approach cooler weather, we are beginning to plan our tire recycling event in Lackawanna County.
Once again we will be utilizing the recycling center @ 3400 Boulevard Avenue in Scranton for the main staging area of the trailer. We will be on site at the recycling center from Wednesday, October 12th through Saturday, October 15th. Hours of operation will be 8 am to 3 pm Wed-Fri and 8 til Noon on Saturday.
This tire collection is for residents of Lackawanna County and excludes businesses. Additionally, we cannot accept tractor tires.
Standard vehicle tires, clear of water and debris, from sedans, station wagons, pickups and SUVs will be accepted at $2/tire off the rim. Tires left on the rim will be at a charge of $5.
Over the years many of you have provided satellite sites on various days, evenings or Saturday hours. That convenience makes for a successful collection. Residents are happy to get rid of the tires and know they are being handled properly. Making it easy for them makes it happen.
If you are able to offer times for drop off during the week after 4 pm or provide an additional Saturday, it would be terrific! One of our municipalities last year had volunteers from a sports team. [energetic, strong and will work for foodJ] Another municipality has traditionally ran a site on Saturday staffed by council members. They have always said it was a win-win. Saturday collections are brought to the trailer at the recycling center on Monday morning.
Will you please consider offering a municipal site? If you have not done so before, I am most happy to visit with your council or board and answer any questions. And, I’m happy to say, Gerard Hetman of the County Community Relations Dept will be a part of the coordination of this year’s event. He hasn’t missed assisting me at tire collections for all the years he has been with the county. He too can answer questions for you on the collection.
Please contact me and we will get the tires rolling!!
